OsteoFascial Integration is an EDS/HSD - focused manual therapy training program aimed at educating healthcare practitioners who offer manual therapy to their patients with EDS. As far as we know, it is the first class of its kind.

OFI emerged as culmination of my many years of adapting manual and osteopathic techniques, many based in craniosacral therapy, as a means to address the unique and often perplexing and complex needs of people who live with Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS), Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD), and hereditable connective tissue disorders (HCTD). Oftentimes, typical physical therapy, manual therapy, massage therapy, osteopathic manual medicine, and craniosacral therapy can be “too much” for clients with EDS/HSD. Adapting to meet the individual needs of each client is one of the basic tenets of these modalities, yet, therapists will describe frustration and concern that their patients are not improving, or worse, becoming injured. OsteoFascial Integration introduces a paradigm shift to treatment to address the most delicate of our clients and offer genuine, gentle manual therapy specific to the unique physical, emotional and spiritual qualities of people who live with connective tissue disorders.

Student Information

Client Volunteer Information

Volunteers from the EDS Community are enthusiastically invited to participate in the Roundtable discussion and act as volunteer clients during the workshop so that the students may learn FROM you. Volunteers are an essential foundation of this workshop. As a client/patient centered therapy, the workshop schedule revolves around meeting the needs of the volunteers. As such, the Roundtable and treatments are scheduled for the afternoon because we understand that mornings can be a bit difficult and time is needed to conserve energy and spoons!

If you choose to volunteer, there are a few things you should know:

  • The schedule may change!
Depending on the ratio of volunteer to students, it may be necessary to break the volunteers into groups. The final schedule will be in place a few days prior to the start of class and Eloise will reach out directly to let you know your time. Your preferences will be taken into consideration and we’ll do everything we can to accommodate.

  • You will be acting as a client volunteer during a supervised OsteoFascial Integration treatment protocol. As such the instructor will be engaging with the students during a portion of your treatment. OsteoFascial Integration was developed with YOU in mind and is a very gentle modality.

  • The Roundtable is scheduled for the afternoon of the THIRD day of the workshop and ALL are welcome.

  • You must be 18 years old to participate in the Retreat and medically stable.

  • You will be required to submit a health intake form to the CT Center for CranioSacral Therapy, your host’s platform.

Workshop Intention

  • To Introduce gentle manual therapy techniques (OsteoFascial Integration) specifically designed to address the needs of people with Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes & Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders.

  • Extend an Invitation to therapists into the world of those who live with Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders and learn how to approach their individual needs appropriately.

Most manual therapists are taught how to release restricted tissue; tissue that is bound, leading to reduced range of motion. But what happens if the tissue is lax? A whole new paradigm of treatment emerges!

Topics Covered

  • Connective tissue; what is it and what does it do?

  • EDS Types. Most content will revolve around Hypermobile EDS (hEDS)

  • Gentle manual therapy techniques with a specific intent on addressing lax connective tissue.

  • Addressing Subluxations

  • Relative Anatomy

  • Comorbidities

  • Contraindications and Cautions
